HORNED BEETLES: Nature's Six-Legged Knights in Armor
An exotic Rhinoceros Beetle

Below: Allomyrina dichotomus, native to Japan, Taiwan and the Asian mainland. This specimen was raised in captivity from an egg.
Length: Approximately 2-1/2 to 3 inches. Fed fruits and special "beetle jelly."

A male of the Japanese variety

Male Allomyrina dichotomus

a trio of rhinos

Despite their fearsome appearance, these large horned beetles are harmless to humans, living on tree sap in the wild (but the males' horns DO pinch!)
